for everyone

UNDERGROUND music is music which has developed a cult following, independent of their commercial success. This music generally speaking has little or no mainstream appeal, visibility or commercial presence. The term is also currently used to describe contemporary music of non-mainstream musical exponents with actual specific genre or style being unimportant in determining the "underground" status.

The term underground music has been applied to several artistic movements, such as the psychedelic music movement of the mid 1960s, punk rock and hardcore, hip hop, alternative rock, various forms of heavy metal including death metal, psytrance and its electronica, outsider music, and experimental music, plus many more.

in the 90's there was abg's, kemistry, the consortium parties, etc. where can we find this scene now? mdc in the fort was short lived. absinthe has fluxxe on thursdays, i could still consider that underground. where else can you find it? at least the rock underground has big sky mind, cafe saguijo, mayric's, 70's bistro, and freedom bar. :<)

There is an effort to bring the underground vibe back. Check out a video from last Saturday at Warehouse 135 at http://funkavy.multiply.com/video/item/19?mark_read=funkavy:video:19.

Rewired, a regular night at Warehouse 135, has in its roster of DJs, the veterans from the good old days of ABG's and Kemistry such as Houseboy (Don Don Renato) who was part owner of the Verve Room and Kemistry. He also used to play a live set with Toti D of Groove Nation who were the guys behind the consortium parties. Also in our roster is me, James Bald 008 and Funk Avy, all regulars at Kemistry. Funk Avy and James Bald 008 were discovered and managed by our friend Jerome who used to be one of the owners of Kemsitry. Having the night in such a big mainstream club may run contrary to the word "underground", but at least the music is still underground since the local mainstream club(s) and DJs reject it. The effort to relive the vibe is there. Our partners at Rewired are the Manila Massive crew, veterans of the ABGs, Kemistry, and Consortium days. Come to our next rewired night on the 23rd, your name +2 will be on the guestlist. Check out http://rewiredmnl.multiply.com

Eddie Boy, there is also another night that plays underground music. Try going to Happy Mondays at Embassy Cuisine. Its organized by Ronald Malaya of Manila Massive. Mulan, a Kemistry vet is the resident DJ. The theme of the night is to play music that is not commercial. You get funk, tech house drum & bass, techno, electro, etc.
